What Is a Substance Use Disorder?

Substance Use Disorder is a medical condition characterized by the inability to control the use of substances despite adverse consequences. It can range from mild to severe, depending on the number of symptoms and the level of disruption in one’s life. Common substances associated with SUDs include alcohol, prescription medications, and illicit drugs.

Signs and Symptoms of SUD

Identifying the signs of SUD is crucial for early intervention and effective treatment. Some of the common signs and symptoms include:
Strong cravings or urges to use the substance
Inability to cut down or control substance use
Spending all your time obtaining, using, or recovering from the substance
Neglecting responsibilities at work, school, or home
Continued use despite recognizing the harm it causes

Comprehensive Substance Abuse Treatment

At Compass Center for Wellness, we offer tailored treatment programs designed to meet the unique needs of each patient. Our approach is holistic, integrating multiple levels of care to address all aspects of addiction and recovery.

Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)

Our Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) is ideal for those who require a structured treatment plan but also need to maintain their daily responsibilities. This program provides a balanced approach to recovery, allowing clients to receive intensive therapy while continuing with work, school, or family commitments. Key components of our IOP include:

  • Individual Therapy: One-on-one sessions with licensed therapists to address the underlying causes of addiction.
  • Group Therapy: Peer support and shared experiences in a therapeutic setting.
  • Psychoeducation: Educational sessions focused on understanding addiction, coping strategies, and relapse prevention.
  • Family Therapy: Involving loved ones in the recovery process to rebuild relationships and create a supportive environment.

Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP)

Our Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) offers a higher level of care for those who need more intensive support but do not require 24/7 residential treatment. PHP at Compass Center for Wellness is designed for those with severe SUDs or those transitioning from inpatient care. Key components of our PHP include:

  • Medical Supervision: Daily monitoring by medical professionals to manage withdrawal symptoms and ensure overall health roadmap for lasting recovery.
  • Comprehensive Assessments: Regular evaluations to track progress and adjust treatment plans as needed.
  • Therapeutic Interventions: A combination of evidence-based therapies, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR).
  • Trauma-Informed Care: We understand that trauma often plays a significant role in substance use, we offer trauma-informed care that focuses on creating a safe and supportive environment. Our therapists are trained to address the impact of trauma on your recovery, helping you heal from past experiences while working towards sobriety.
  • Relapse Prevention Strategies: We work with you to develop comprehensive relapse prevention strategies that include identifying triggers, building resilience, and creating a strong support network. Our goal is to equip you with the tools needed to handle potential challenges and maintain your progress.
  • Wellness Activities: Integrative approaches such as yoga, meditation, and nutrition counseling to support overall well-being.
